Art 1 Final Portfolio

1. Honestly I loved all of the projects this year except for the vanishing point and sketching unit projects. but of all of the projects my favorite one was the clay tile. I have always loved working with clay. I'm better with hands on art rather than sketching with a pencil or a painting with a paint brush. I liked this project because for me, at least, it was easy to make the shapes I needed and to slip and score them. It was kind of difficult to do the wedging because I couldn't tell when all the bubbles were out of the clay. I liked the idea of working on a slab and how the different shapes come off of it to give it more 3D detail. All in all this project has been my favorite one this whole year.

2. I really didn't like the game drawing at all. It was hard and confusing and the water colors weren't good to use. But I did learn how to use vanishing points to make straight lines and show angles. From this unit i learned how to better make 3D objects. And I will be able to use this new talent in all my other classes especially geometry. Also I could really impress my peers by using two point perspective and three point perspective to enhance any drawings that I will do. And from the beginning of the project to the end I have developed more than in any of the other projects. In conclusion even though i hated the game drawing it is the project that I have learned the most and developed the most from.

3. For the printing project i used skills that I have learned from previous classes. In sixth grade I did a printing project of an owl and we used the exact same equipment as we did in this class. I got to say though that it was much easier the second time around. Relief printing is rather easy as far as the amount of supplies goes. all you need to print is paper, paint, linoleum, a gouge, and a brayer. Each year of school I take an art class. They all do ninety percent of the same things, but each year is progressively more and more complex. I have greatly advanced as an artist and it is because of each year trying harder things and building on the projects of the past.

4. This year I think that the landscape painting was the least important concept taught this year. It was important to learn of all the color terms like primary colors, secondary colors, and complementary colors. Learning how to mix paints was also important to know how to do. But the actual painting itself wasn't very successful because I cant capture a picture in a painting. I can mix colors well and get basic shapes but I'm not good at getting details with paints. It was fun though to paint and experiment with the endless possibilities of colors. But the concept of free painting just didn't work out for me. Finally the landscape painting was fun to do and taught me some important things but the concept of just picking something and painting it didn't work for me.

5. If I had to pick one art piece that represents me I would pick the clay tile but I already used it so I cant use it in this question. Mr. Potato Head can work for me though. The first thing is that I made him pink to represent that I support the fight against breast cancer which my aunt has. I am also in the pink ribbon club. Also he is a character from my favorite kids movie, toy story. Mr. Potato Head is also holding a baseball, one of my favorite sports. Finally and maybe the biggest connection is that the New York Yankees have been my team since the womb. So even though i would have had a connection with my clay tile my connection with Mr. Potato Head is still a good one that reflects me as an artist.
